It's Monday... that means art center volunteering... it's also lunch time, which means I am cold... this big old building doesn't heat very well and sucks the heat out of a person's very being... but never fear! I have something to rescue me from my chill... I brought a can of chicken soup with me and wow am I warming up now... I need to remember to do this more often!
For anyone wondering, the anniversary went well... felt loved beyong belief, as usual, and spent way too much money on supper... but I got a bicycle... a beautiful purple bicycle! I haven't had a new bicycle since I was in grade 2 which was a great long time ago... I got a cushie seat topper for it and a nice helmet and so now all I need to do is get my hubby to make sure the tires are pumped properly and have it greased right... then I can go for my first bike ride in years (hopefully with the whole family since my hubby and kids have had bikes for a while)! I also need to name my bike, as all valiant modes of transport should be named... I think I'll reserve judgement on that though until I ride it around a wee bit.... can't wait!
Take care, Blogland... I need to get back to doing what I've been voluntold... LOL! ^_~

So much to do, so little time...
Yes yes... I've been neglecting my plot of blogland and the weeds are starting to grow... this will be short as I've got a superhero base to map up for my hubby... that's right kids, cartography can be a lot of fun!
To fill you in on what I have been doing for the past while:
1) Making/sewing a Charlemagne costume for a school project that our eldest is part of.
2) Taking pictures of everything, including the lovely cemetery near our maison.
3) Playing in 2 games using the Mutants & Masterminds system, blue booking, and plotting to run a junior superheroes game of my own set in Canada.
4) Making random maps of buildings and fantasy worlds with the graph paper that I bought myself for my last birthday because I am such a gamer-geekgirl.
5) Reading comics books... lots and lots of comic books!
6) Volunteering at the local art center.
7) Cleaning the house.
8) And a myriad of other things that involve not blogging.
A quick note: the 3rd anniversary of my hubby and I getting married is on Wednesday... I still love him as much as, if not more than, I did the day we were wed... he makes me happy and makes me feel complete... who could ask for more?
And now, that being said, it's time for me to scamper off... take care, Blogland, until next time!

Geeking Out!
Where have I been?! Obviously not blogging, LOL! It's been a busy busy little while around the maison and I shall spare you the boring details since most of it involves working on this, that, or the next thing.... housework, characters for games, trying not to catch every cold bug the kids bring home from school... regular everyday stuff that blends on as days go by.
Last night my hubby brought all of his comic books downstairs to sort through... boxes upon boxes of graphic goodness has taken over our small living room area and most of them I haven't ever read (though I want to badly!). I stayed up until past midnight trying to help him with his wacky rearranging system and felt completely useless through most of it... my sleepy ineptness probably caused more problems that aid. Happily though, I also got to read a couple of things I'd only ever heard him talk about: Batman: The Killing Joke & Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters. He's told me the stories so many times, it was like reading an old favourite tale that's been passed down through a family for generations through spoken word. I knew most of the story from what he had always told me, but seeing it for myself helped compliment what I already knew and enriched the tale. It was almost like watching a movie adaptation of a book, and then going back to read the book for the first time. You know the basics, but now you get to see the whole story as it was originally laid out. Overall, it's a very very cool experience.
For anyone who is as much of a fan of video games as I am, they should check out this race I found for Super Mario Bros. superiority but clicking >here<. You know that you are a geeky fan-girl (or geeky fan-boy, in the case of any male readers out there in Blogland) when you watch this race and get all excited like I did! It was so cool! Makes me wish I could get to a convention or something so I could partake in a race like that... mom & dad, if you're reading this, send me my old NES & SNES consoles and all the games that go with them... I need to practice, LOL! ^_~
Ah well, places to go, comics to read, email to check, things to geek out about... and I should probably have breakfast before it's lunch... take care, Blogland, until next time! ^_^

Seven Hours of Superheroics
Saturday is my favourite day of the week. When I was little it was because I had no school and there were cartoons on television and I could go outside to play all day. Now that I am older, Saturdays are my most very favourite day because it's the one day of the week that a bunch of our friends come over to play tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons or Mutants & Masterminds and the like. My hubby runs the game as our wonderfully awesome GM and the rest of us gather on couch, lawn chair, and floor with our characters awaiting the adventures that are about to unfold. I keep a journal/archive of our sessions so that I can look back on them and laugh, and also so that we have a record of what we did so that there is a bit of continuity in our game. We socialize and joke around and for the most part have a helluva lot of fun!
Last night was our regular gaming night. Currently we are playing a superheroic campaign featuring the comic book-style episodes of The Watch, Lake City's #1 supergroup! We were missing a couple of our players (they're on vacation where it's warm, the lucky ducks!) but decided to carry on anyway since we haven't played for a few weeks thanks to the holidays. My hubby had us on an epic and cosmic quest to gather items from across the dimensions so that we could save the multiverse from an evil warrior bent on ruling all. We started the adventure a few weeks ago but last night we finally finished it and I have to say it was more fun than I've had in quite a while! Part of that fun was due to the fact that no one had to work in the morning so we all got to stay up really late to finish the rest of the story. It was somewhere around 4am when we finally sent everyone home and went to bed and I didn't mind one bit. Playing so late was like harkening back to when I was still living with my parents. I'd tell my mom that I wouldn't be home until really late so she wouldn't wait up for me and worry, and she'd wave good-bye and tell me to watch out for pit traps or to have fun slaying dragons and kobolds. Then I'd go off and play all night long, crawling in to sleep just before the sun came up.
There's something about immersing yourself into a realm of make-believe for several hours that is very theraputic. Pretending to be someone that I'm not, in the context of gaming at least, allows me to get in touch with other parts of myself and allows me to expand my imagination. It also allows me to be something I could never ever be, such as a flightly teenage girl with magical powers or a rugged gunslinging man in a post-apocalyptic world. Having fun and hanging out with friends for hours on end to enjoy a common interest is what gaming is all about. I've been missing that in our current gaming group for a while, and although I wouldn't want to do this late night stuff every Saturday, last night was special because we did stay up so late and we did have a ton of fun. I can hardly wait until next week now when we start up our Golden Age superhero campaign!
Also, I need to send a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY into Blogland today. I know she doesn't read this, but today is our youngest's special day -- she's a whole decade old! -- and I just wanted to proclaim it to the world at large. Take care, Blogland, and remember to have fun and indulge your inner child once in a while -- you'll rarely regret it!

Katamari and Me
We Love Katamari is the sequel to the hit console video game Katamari Damacy and despite how twisted and directly-translated-from-Japanese it is, it's quite a lot of fun to play and highly addictive... in it you are the Prince of the Universe and your dad, the King, is so happy with the successes of the first game that he tells you to go down to Earth and appease the fans there... you do whatever wacky task they present you by pushing a ball (or katamari) around an area collecting items that stick to it... you can also collect presents and your cousins which add to the character skins that you can use and also unlock the two-player mode where you can team up or play versus someone... I love this game and have been playing it a lot since we got it for our eldest for Xmas, but alas, like all addictive things, We Love Katamari has a downside: it makes me sick to my stomach.... At first, I thought I just had a flu bug or something... I was feeling a bit dizzy and queasy and really tired... I drank a bunch of liquid, tried to have a nap or two, and carried around an empty 4L ice cream pail for a few days... I probably did have a bit of a bug at first, come to think of it since my throat also hurt a bit, but now I should be fit as a fiddle so to speak... thus today, as I was playing my current game of choice, I finally put two and two together... So now I am faced with a bit of a dilemma... I love the game a lot and would love to complete it but if it makes me sick, I'm not sure how I can... my next course of action, after my stomach settles again, is to play in shorter intervals... only a level or two at a sitting so that my tummy doesn't try to crawl up my throat like it wants to do right now. >_<
In other news, it snowed here today... it snowed and snowed and snowed... it's the wonderful sticky kinda of snow that is great for making snow-beings... and if the weather continues this way, I might just go outside tomorrow and make a snow dragon near the steps... the only problem with making anything out of snow is that you have to roll it around to collect a big ball... which reminds me of katamari, which makes me feel a bit queasy... LOL... just can't win... Ah well, take care, Blogland and HAPPY Winter-een-mas 2006!
